Miguel A. Mariño

 

UCOWR is proud to announce the recipient for the 2002 Warren A. Hall Award is Dr. Miguel A. Mariño, University of California , Davis .

 

 Miguel A. Mariño received B.S. (1962) and M.S (1965) degrees from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.  He worked as a hydrologist at the New Mexico State Engineers Office and the Illinois State Water Survey prior to attending University of California , Los Angeles (UCLA), where he received a Ph.D. (1972) degree in civil engineering.  He joined the University of California , Davis faculty in 1972, where he now serves as Professor (Above Scale) of Hydrologic Sciences, Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Biological & Agricultural Engineering.  

 

Dr. Mariño’s research interests include groundwater modeling and management, hydrologic systems analysis, and planning, design, and management of hydrosystems.  To date, he has supervised 26 Ph.D. and more than 50 M.S. students.  Many of his former students are now successful teachers, researchers, and practicing engineers at various distinguished institutions and industries.  

 

Dr. Mariño served as a consultant to governmental agencies and private companies in the United States and abroad.  He has presented invited papers and seminars in Russia , China , Spain , Netherlands , Germany , Mexico , Chile , Brazil , Morocco , and other countries.  He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Julian Hinds Award, the Richard R. Torrens Award, and two Outstanding Journal Paper Awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Best Paper Award from the International Water Resources Association, Honorary Member of ASCE and the American Water Resources Association (AWRA), Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and AWRA, and Corresponding Member of Mexico National Academy of Engineering.  Dr. Mariño served on the editorial board of many journals, including the editorship of ASCE’s Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management.  

 

Dr. Mariño is the lead UC Davis delegate to UCOWR and has served as a member of UCOWR’s Board of Directors, chair of the Research Committee, and member of the International Programs Committee.
