2000 Award Recipient

Each year, UCOWR recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Organization and names them as "Friends of UCOWR." The 2000 Friend of UCOWR is: William H. Funk, Washington State University. Dr. Funk was named a Friend for his continued support of UCOWR and for his support of water related projects at the regional, state, and national level.

Dr. Funk served as Director of the Washington Water Research Center, Washington State University, from 1980 until his retirement in 1999. He has had an active and lengthy involvement with UCOWR for some 25 years. He served as the Chair of the Thesis Competition and Awards Committees for UCOWR from 1990-93. Dr. Funk is a member of several professional organizations and served in the following positions: National Director, Water Pollution Control Federation (1979-81); Eastern Washington State Director, American Water Resources Association (1982-84); Representative, Pacific Northwest/Oceania Region, National Association of Water Institute Directors (1982-87); President, Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association (1983-84); President, North American Lake Management Society (1984-85); President, National Association of Water Institute Directors (1985-87); Vice President, American Water Resources Association - Washington Section (1987-88); Board Member, Universities Council on Water Resources (1987-90); and Chair, President's Faculty Excellence Award for Public Service Committee, Washington State University (1989-90).

Dr. Funk is a member of: National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges Water Resources Committee (1982-present); Joint U.S. Geological Survey - Institute Directors Committee to Improve Institute Program (1985-86); State of Washington Centennial Water Co (1985-87); Washington High-Level Nuclear Waste Board (1985-90); Governor's Committee for Evaluation of Water and Natural Resources to 2010 (1988-90); Environmental Monitoring Subcommittee (a joint committee of Nuclear Waste Board and Council) (1987-90); Water Pollution Control Federation Research Foundation Board (1990-92).
